Netflix’s New Docuseries “Dogs” Will Give You ALL the Feels

On November 16, 2018, Netflix added a new docuseries, Dogs, to their library, and it’s been giving people everywhere (dog lovers in particular, but pretty much everyone else too) a whole lot of emotions.

The series was inspired by a chance encounter that Glen Zipper (the creator) had with a neglected dog on the streets of New Jersey. The dog, Anthony, was eventually shipped off to a shelter and put in line to be euthanized. Thankfully, Glen was able to arrive at the shelter and rescue Anthony just in time! In the process, he also connected with several other dogs at the shelter, and Dogs was born.

In this new series, Glen traveled to, Japan, Italy, Syria, Costa Rica and throughout the US, exploring the unconditional love and connection furry friends have with their owners.

EPISODE 1. “THE KID WITH A DOG”

An 11-year-old girl, Corrine, suffers from seizures. She meets Rory, a dog trained to detect them. This episode focuses on their bond, friendship, and ultimate trust between man’s best friend and her health.

Episode 2: “BRAVO, ZEUS”

Ayham, a refugee from Syria, has been separated from his husky, Zeus for over two years. He is hoping for a reunion.

Episode 3. “ICE ON THE WATER”

An Italian fisherman and his best friend, Ice prepare for tourist season.

Episode 4. “SCISSORS DOWN”

This episode covers the ultimate grooming contest, set in Japan. A country where grooming is an art form and people really look like their dogs.

Episode 5: “TERRITORIO de ZEGUATES”

Did you know there is an outdoor mecca for dogs? This sanctuary cares for over 800 dogs in the mountains of Costa Rica.

Episode 6 “SECOND CHANCES”

An exploration of New York City’s adoption system.

Glen said, “Our love for [dogs] speaks to our unanimity of needs. Love. Friendship. Companionship. Loyalty. We all want these qualities in our lives, and dogs are the only souls on the planet who guarantee us each and every one of them in spades.”

This series is a must for all dog lovers. You don’t believe me? Check out the trailer:

I’m not crying, you’re crying.

Rock Star David Bowie Once Launched His Own Internet Service To Rival AOL

David Bowie was a legend in our time, the likes of whom we may never see again. His genius knew few bounds. He was well-loved as a star of stage and screen, but it turns out he was also a bit of a tech visionary!

Back in 1998, David Bowie, international rock star extraordinaire, made a pretty bold announcement – he was launching his own internet service! Called BowieNet, the platform aimed to unite music fans around the world with uncensored access to the internet, as well as plenty of exclusive content found on www.davidbowie.com.

Users would get a customizable home page, an email address (your.name@davidbowie.com), groups, chat capabilities, gaming and more.

Pretty much Facebook, except run by David Bowie, which makes it better.

It all started when two internet pioneers, Robert Goodale and Ron Roy, came to Bowie with an idea. How about an online fan club that would also be an internet service provider? Bowie was already using email and digital releases to reach his fan base, so he was psyched to give it a go.

The competition? America Online.

So, the laughter settled, Bowie went to work on his vision. Older folks will remember receiving CD-ROMs in the mail, finding them delivered with their pizzas or a few of them falling out of magazines offering free trials of AOL. But Bowie wanted to experiment with his CD-ROM. He created 3D-rendered environments, music and videos, along with the customized Internet Explorer browser. Some material couldn’t even be accessed except for online.

He also interacted with fans, posting as “Sailor” on message boards and hosting live chats.

Bowie had big plans for his brand of early social media. But when dial-up internet disintegrated, his 100,000 subscribers trickled away. BowieNet shut down in 2006. No one much noticed. The announcement wasn’t even made until 2012. Ironically, the post appeared on Bowie’s own Facebook page.

Bowie made a career out of being revolutionary. His accomplishments with BowieNet foreshadowed everything internet users are offered now.  He couldn’t have known the power the internet would ultimately have in the music business. But he saw the potential and jumped in like he did with everything in his glitzy life.

Imagine if he launched BowieNet during the Ziggy Stardust days.

15 Posts That Prove Just How Weird English Can Be

It might be hard to believe if you’ve grown up with it all your life, but English is actually a pretty tough language to learn. You see, English has rules, bu it’s also got about 10 different exceptions to each of these rules, and you’d best believe you need to remember all of them. Plus, English at this point has borrowed words and structure from so many other languages that it’s hard to enforce a standard set of rules anyway. The result is a true mish-mash that makes zero sense, and these posts prove it.

Payless Fooled a Bunch of Influencers with a Fake Shoe Store, and It Is Awesome

There’s something about this story that brngs me so much joy! Maybe it’s because I’m the type of person who’ll wear the same jeans/shoes/sweater basically until they wear out completely. I don’t really care too much about high fashion. My “stylishness” extends about as far as not looking like a total fool/slob in public. That’s it.

Honestly, it kind of blows my mind that people spend HUGE wads of cash on clothing and shoes when it doesn’t really look all that different from the stuff in cheaper stores. But what do I know?

Anyway, Payless, the budget-friendly brand that a lot of people would probably turn their noses up at, decided to play a brilliant trick on “influencers” out there, and it really just goes to show you how much brand matters in influencing the perception of the public.

The people behind the stunt opened up a pop-up shoe store in a Los Angeles mall called “Palessi” (classic) and invited influencers to the opening. The store was stocked with Payless shoes, but with huge markups.

They even created a fake website and a fake Instagram account. Take a look at this video to see how it all went down.

According to Payless, 80 people shopped at the store over the course of two days and spent around $3,000. One shopper spent $640 on a pair of boots that had been marked up 1,800%.

Payless CEO Sarah Couch said, “The campaign plays off of the enormous discrepancy and aims to remind consumers we are still a relevant place to shop for affordable fashion.”

I guess it’s safe to say that folks out there got seriously hoodwinked. Also, I want to be an “influencer.”

If You Know a Kevin, They’re Probably an Idiot (According to Reddit)

Do you know a Kevin? Are they kind of a jerk, or an idiot? Maybe they’re an overachiever who’s a jerk and an idiot? I mean, really think about all the Kevins in your life. I have to admit, I don’t want to generalize against any nice, smart Kevins out there, but the ones I’ve known definitely fit the bill.

So, are all Kevins really idiots or just misunderstood?

Like most weird phenomena, you only need to visit Reddit to see proof of this Kevin a-hole’s stupid existence.

So grab a brewski (because that’s what Kevin often drinks) and scroll through these 15 pieces of evidence to decide for yourself if Kevin is really a nitwit or not.

Woman Shames Her Engagement Ring on Reddit, Everyone Goes Nuts

Proposing marriage is one of the scariest things someone can do. It’s a moment that’s full of emotions, ideally a celebration of the love between two people. But when the bride-to-be finds the ring before her future fiance can pop the question, and she hates the ring instantly… that certainly complicates things.

Recently, a woman found her engagement ring stuffed into her boyfriend’s nightstand. She then proceeded to post a pic to a ring-shaming group online. The reaction on Reddit was less than sweet, and maybe for good reason…

The woman offered up a roast and an “EWWWWW” and asked Reddit users how to “tactfully say no” because she wanted something different. I think we passed “tactfully” the moment this picture was posted.

Reddit users spun out in different directions, from offering advice:

Or lightening the mood:

To defending her:

While a majority tore her apart:

It probably goes without saying, this marriage will be off to a “rock”-y start.
