Street Artist’s 3D Chalk Illustrations Are Really Great

I’ve seen a lot of chalk art on the street and on sidewalks lately when I’ve been taking walks, but I’ve never in my life seen anything quite like the chalk art of a man named David Zinn.

He creates really cool, 3-D chalk art of little creatures and animals and he uses the street as his canvas.

He describes his work this way: “Street artist specializing in small-scale, improvised and (mostly) light-hearted chalk art.”

The 6 Types of Acne and Why They Might Pop Up

Acne can cause problems beyond damaged skin. Dealing with acne can be stressful in itself, which doesn’t exactly help it go away, either.

But did you know that there are actually six types of acne? And while there isn’t always an answer for everything, there are different reasons why acne may occur. Let’s take a closer look at each type of acne, including inflammatory acne and the noninflammatory variety.

Whiteheads

One of the most common forms of acne, whiteheads fall under the noninflammatory category. These whitish-colored bumps have a white center in the middle of a red halo. You may find a hair come out from the center.

Whiteheads are a direct result of clogged pores. This can occur from dirt, oil sebum, or even dead skin cells that are closed within a pore.

Blackheads

Like whiteheads, blackheads also fall under the noninflammatory type of acne. However, they are characterized by dark, black-colored spots. These appear in the form of raised bumps.

Blackheads can also be caused by blocked pores, most often by hair follicles.

Pustules

More commonly referred to as pimples, pustules are often tender, larger bumps with a circular center. Inside, you’ll find a yellow/white pus covering a red base. Essentially, they look like whiteheads that are much more inflamed.

Pustules can be caused by a number of factors, including an allergic reaction, insect bite, or clogged pores.

Papules

Falling under the inflammatory category, papules are located under the surface of the skin. They are raised, pink, and tender. However, they don’t have a visible center.

Papules can be caused by several skin conditions, including warts, eczema, or skin infection. You can also get papules from an allergic reaction.

Nodules

Nodules are one of the most painful forms of acne. These inflamed, hard lumps can be found deep within the skin and can become severely complicated.

Nodules are formed when clogged pores damage the cells and tissue deep beneath the skin’s surface. Let’s just say this can turn into a painful process.

Finally, the last form of acne is cysts. Essentially, they are pustules that become infected. Cysts are often filled with puss and can cause severe skin issues such as scarring.

This Woman’s Bra Cup Design Turned into the Popular N95 Mask

Sometimes, the best innovations come out of nowhere. In the case of the N95 mask, that’s exactly what happened.

This particle-filtering mask has become even more popular due to the coronavirus pandemic. Due to its ability to block out 95 percent of airborne particles, it’s a staple in surgeries and other medical areas.

However, did you know the inspiration for the N95 mask came from a woman who originally designed a bra cup?

Meet Sarah Little Turnbull.

Turnbull worked for the 3M company back in the late 1950s. During that time, she worked with Shapeen, which is a non-woven material made of polymers typically used for decorative ribbons. She utilized this material to create the first-ever pre-made bows used for wrapping gifts during the holidays.

A true innovator, Turnbull came up with a ridiculous number of ideas. She presented 3M executives with a lengthy overview of her lineup. They liked her work enough to get Turnbull started on designing a molded bra cup.

However, with three sick family members, Turnbull spent a ton of time in medical environments. She realized that medical workers needed a better solution than the thin masks they often worked with.

So, she came up with a solution.

By 1961, they introduced a non-woven lightweight medical mask based on her concept, with elastic bands instead of strings, an aluminum nose clip, and a form-fitting “bubble” shape. (The bra patent was approved in 1962.)

Though innovative, the mask couldn’t block pathogens for medical use and was marketed for dust filtration instead. An improved respirator hit the market in 1972 that was suitable for other industrial purposes. As the mask’s filtration evolved, so did its usefulness.

In 1995, the N95 respirator was introduced in the health care field, fulfilling Turnbull’s original ambition.

Sara Little Turnbull passed away in 2015. But during her lifetime, she proved to be a creative thinker who inspired a key piece of protective gear utilized more than ever today.
