A German student was sued….

A German student was sued for $3,772 by his alma mater for earning his bachelor’s and master’s “too fast”. Both degrees usually take 11 semesters, but Marcel Pohl graduated in 2; he went to one class while having 2 friends share notes from other classes he was enrolled in at the same time.

Adults Discuss When Kids Asked “Why?” and They (And Google) Had No Answer

Kids need information. And they like to ask questions. They also like to ask parents (and anyone else who will listen) “WHY?”

About everything you could ever imagine. Most of the time adults can give them an answer or at least make one up, but sometimes…there is no answer. And Google can’t even help.

AskReddit users shared their funny personal stories.

1. That one backfired.

“My 4-yr-old asked me, “How many arms does an octopus have?”

“Eight,” I replied.

“Hmm, let’s ask google,” my son said, doubting the veracity of my answer.

“Fine,” I say. “OK Google, how many arms does an octopus have?”

“Six,” she replies.

Aughhhhhhh. Thanks a lot, Google.”

2. The first mother.

“My niece, 5 at the time, asked me who was the first mother.. I was confused and asked “what do you mean? Your mother’s mother?” And she goes, “no, my mother’s mother had a mother, and then she had a mother too, but how far does it go, who was the first mother?””

3. But, why?

“Not a parent but I was babysitting a 4 yr old and the child pointed to a cooler out in the backyard and said,

Child: “Do you want to go die in that cooler out there?“

Me: “No thank you.”

Child: “Why not? I would enjoy watching that.”

Me: “Because I like my life the way it is, I’m happy and there’s no need to die yet.”

Child: “Why?”

Pretty sure I babysat a future serial killer.”

4. In outer space.

“Why was I in space before your tummy?”

……tell me more kid”

5. No answer for that.

“My little cousin once asked why Spider-Man doesn’t shoot webs out of his butt like a normal spider. I still don’t have an answer for him.”

6. Mind. Blown.

“‘Why is green?’ A genuine question my daughter asked. Not, ‘ Why is X green?’ Just ‘Why is green?’”

7. Stumped!

“Do caterpillars burp?”

Google had no idea.

8. That’s kind of brilliant.

“Not my child but my little cousin asked me did dinosaurs know humans could be fat.”

9. Two very important questions.

“She asked me if employees come to their work on their off day, do they get to use the employee bathroom or the customer bathroom.”

10. Never thought about that before.

“This isn’t a why question, but my kid asked me “what’s your favourite stairs?” two weeks ago and I’m still confused.”

11. Eyes burning right through you.

“My 1st grader asked in front of her entire classroom, why does the Tooth Fairy want my teeth? Thirty 6 year olds looked at me for the answer.”

12. Hmmmmmm.

“”If there really were dragons, what would they cost?”

13. Aging in reverse.

“Daddy, are you going to be a boy when you grow down?”

14. What are we doing here?

“My son asks me everyday “why are we on this planet? Why are we here!” Hes four man. What do I answer?!”

15. No answer for that one.

“When I was in the army and back home on mid tour leave my 5 year old neice asked me “Uncle Tupiekit….what is war?”

Like shit kid I don’t even know that answer.”

16. Kangaroo roots.

“Why do we put one leg forward and leg back while walking. Why cant both legs go together.

Clearly my 3 year old baby has still not forgotten her kangaroo life of her previous birth.”

17. I don’t have the answers.

“My nephew has had a couple of pretty good ones, like “why is it Thursday?” and “why are hands attached to arms?” and “why is that a fox?”, but my singular favourite has to be “what is outside for?” I don’t really know, man.”

18. Deeeeeeep thoughts.

“At 4 yrs old she asked me, “Why is happiness important?*

Turns out, it’s a surprisingly difficult question to answer.”

19. Rapid-fire questions.

“I was heading back from a game on the train a few years ago and there was a boy and his dad. Kid was 5 or 6.

For a solid 90 minutes, that kid asked his dad question after question after question. His dad answered every single one patiently, simply and handled all the followups. He listened to the kid, thought for a moment, and then calmly blew the kid’s mind over and over again.

“Dad, what’s that in that field?” “Dad, why are the lights on the ceiling instead of the floor?” “Dad, what are bins made of?” “Dad, who knows where we are now?” and so on. The kid was so wonderfully curious.

By an hour in, all the seats around were listening in and grinning at each other. I learned all sorts of stuff listening in. It was incredible. I’m a dad now and I just hope I can be like that dad for my kids, it was amazing.”

20. Might have a solution there.

“When my daughter was 4 or 5, she’d get on a “why” roll. And would just rapid fire questions without ever waiting for an answer. She’d just get that little mouth motor warmed up and off she’d go.

So one day, in a bit of daddy frustration, I asked her “why do you ask so many questions?”

She looked at me and said “Why do I?”

And that was that – and I went to do something else.”

Those stories are hilarious.

A Mom Wrote ‘Please Stop Judging Me for Leaving the Office at Exactly 5 P.M.’

To all the working parents out there: this article is for you. You know how the constant struggle between work and raising your kids and the time limitations put on you really calls for a lot of maneuvering when it comes to your life.

And you know that some people in the workplace will judge moms and dads who have to leave at the same time to take care of their kiddos.

Read on and see how one mom handles this conundrum.

A working mom named Jamie Johnson wrote this interesting piece.

“Please stop judging me for leaving the office at exactly 5 p.m., but my kids are waiting to be picked up from the sitter.

I know I’m missing this meeting, but my kid’s preschool graduation is more important.

I know I was late today, but I can’t drop the baby off at daycare until 7:45 a.m.

wocintech (microsoft) - 229

I know I seem distracted, because I am distracted. I have a sick toddler and I am waiting to find out when I can get him into the pediatrician.

I don’t want to look exhausted when I show up to the office, but I have been awake since 4:30 a.m. with an inconsolable kid.

I know my eyes look glazed over, but I spent the last 12 hours trying to soothe a baby to sleep.

I didn’t mean for my email to seem snippy, but I have a 5-year old who cried this morning because he didn’t want to go to school, and I am worried about him.

A Mom Explained Why She’s Not Mad at Her Son for Getting Suspended for Beating up His Bully

Finding out the right way to deal with bullies is a very contentious issue in this day and age for parents, and obviously for the kids going through it, too.

What do you do as a parent? Tell your kid to stand up for him/herself, or get parents and authorities involved?

This mom definitely had strong feelings about this topic.

Posted by Allison Arnall Davis on Monday, December 2, 2019

This story was written by a mom named Allison Arnall Davis of Springfield, Missouri.

Here’s how it starts…

“Five days of OSS for beating up the kid that has been tormenting and bullying him since middle school.

As a parent, I know I’m supposed to be upset with him for resorting to violence or getting suspended, but I’m not.

Not even a little bit.

For years, the school has failed Drew.

When this kid has constantly threatened to beat Drew up along with several of his friends, the school did nothing.

When this kid followed Drew down the hall threatening him and making fun of him AND it was all captured on video, the school did nothing.

When other kids told teachers and administrators that this kid was threatening Drew, the school did nothing.

When this kid took to social media, voicemails, and texting threats, the school did nothing.”

You can read the rest by checking out the Facebook post.

To all the parents out there: what do you think about this? Is this how you would tell your kid to deal with a bully? Or maybe you think it’s a bad idea?

Let us know in the comments. Let’s have a debate about this important topic!

A Mysterious Object Is Sending Signals to Earth Every 16 Days from Deep Space

Whoa…

Is something trying to communicate with us? Or maybe this is a warning of a pending alien invasion?

The truth is out there somewhere, but for now, scientists are baffled by an object transmitting signals that hit Earth every 16 times. The object also happens to be 500 million light-years away.

Scientists are at a loss to explain what is causing these transmissions, but it is being called the “first reliable pattern of fast radio bursts in deep space.” The bursts repeat their activity every 16 days, which researchers think means that something is controlling them.

Astrophysicists found the pattern from a radio telescope in British Columbia, Canada. One or two radio bursts will blast out each hour for four days before it goes silent for 12 days…and then the pattern repeats itself. The radio bursts were traced to a galaxy 500 million light-years away.

Astrophysicist Duncan Lorimer of West Virginia University said, “This is very significant. It’s potentially going to take us in an interesting direction to get to the bottom of these repeaters.”

2019-07-10_04-19-21

Because of the consistent pattern of the bursts, some researchers theorize that the transmissions could be coming from a neutron star and an early OB-type star binary system. Others suggest the orbital motion of a star or another object in the outskirts of the galaxy.

Figuring out more information about these fast radio bursts can also help astronomers learn more about how matter is distributed across the universe.

Here’s a video about these mysterious bursts from outer space.

What do you think about this?

Scary? Weird? Just the universe saying hello?

Let us know in the comments, all you armchair scientists out there!

An Artist Shows What Historical Figures Would Look Like If They Were Alive Today

I have a feeling that once you start looking at this Instagram account, you’re gonna want more.

It’s called Royalty Now, and it’s run by a graphic designer named Becca Saladin. She imagines what historical figures would look like today and her work is really incredible!

Here are some great examples of her work.

1. The infamous Mona Lisa.

2. Queen Nefertiti.

3. Anne Boleyn.

View this post on Instagram

I hope nobody here will get tired of my Anne Boleyn posts…she is my favorite historical figure so you may get quite a few ? Many people asked me last time I posted Anne if I really thought her features (specifically her lips) were really that delicate – and I don’t think they were. Tudor portraiture often de-emphasized these features, so I modified my finished version to reflect what I think is probably her more likely appearance. Since it’s the holiday season, one of my favorite ghost stories is the story of Anne appearing underneath the great oak tree at Hever Castle, her childhood home, every Christmas day. Do you all have a favorite historic ghost story? Hope you all have a great holiday season! ?? . 6. Benjamin Franklin.

7. Genghis Khan.

Here we are with Genghis Khan, one of the most fascinating rulers in history and the founder of the Mongol Empire. Genghis was also responsible for millions of deaths. This was one that was requested many times over the past week. This is the only portrait of Genghis Khan that was supervised by someone who knew what he looked like – his grandson Khubilai Khan. There are no contemporary portraits of him. Similar to the depiction of Cleopatra, there are differing descriptions on what his coloring was. Some claimed he had red hair and green eyes, others claimed he had features very similar to East Asian populations today. I have to admit – this one challenged me and stretched my skills. This was the oldest and most stylized portrait I’ve ever worked from. Let me know what you think in the comments below! . 8. Honest Abe.

View this post on Instagram

A lot of you requested Abraham Lincoln when I asked last week – this one came together so nicely. As most of you know, Abe Lincoln was the 16th president of the United States from March 1861 until his assassination in April 1865. Lincoln led the nation through the American Civil War, its bloodiest war and its greatest moral, constitutional, and political crisis. He preserved the Union, abolished slavery, strengthened the federal government, and modernized the U.S. economy. . I personally don’t see any modern doppelganger – I think he was a really unique looking person. Who do you all think he looks like? . 10. King Tut.

The Patreon pollsters have selected King Tut as the next subject! I know this is a little different than my usual post. This time, I’ve been given permission to use this recreation by the forensic artist (& my idol) Elisabeth Daynes (@atelier_daynes). This recreation of King Tut has long been my favorite, and was created in 2005 when 2 teams were tasked with recreating what King Tut may have looked like. It shows some of the features that may have been the result of inbreeding, such as the overbite and weak chin. I realize that the hard work here has been done for me by Daynes, but I wanted to bring him into the modern day. Hope you enjoy. . . If you would like to support my work you can do so by joining the Patreon and gaining exclusive perks like seeing posts a week before they are posted here, seeing some of my greatest failures, and watching creation videos. (www.patreon.com/royaltynow) or I have a “Tip Jar” here at www.paypalme/royaltynow. This work costs money to create, so any help is much appreciated ❤ . 11. Napoleon Bonaparte.

12. Cleopatra.

View this post on Instagram

I’ve been resisting doing Cleopatra for some time, simply because there aren’t many reliable depictions of her, and most descriptions of her by historians were made after her death. However, I’ve gotten so many requests for her, I wanted to give you all what you’ve been asking for ? . . The closest thing we have are Roman busts from the first century BCE, around the time that Cleopatra would have been visiting Rome. I chose to base my recreation off of the Berlin Bust of Cleopatra, which was thought to have been created around 46-44 BCE. I chose this bust because most of the depictions of her include common features – a strong nose, full lips, and small chin. It’s also hard to tell what her skin & hair colors were – most descriptions describe her as dark haired and “honey-skinned”, but some even say she was a redhead. Consider this my “Artist’s Rendition” of a way that she could have possibly looked. Bottom line, Cleopatra was an amazing woman. She was intelligent, witty, spoke several languages, and was incredibly skilled in diplomacy. I really enjoyed learning more about her during research for this recreation! . .
