A Lack of Paid Sick Leave Days Exacerbates Flu Season and Coronavirus Fears

Coughs, colds, the flu, and infectious diseases such as the coronavirus aren’t just contagious, they require you to rest. So staying home when you’re sick is important.

Unfortunately, an estimated 20 million Americans go to work while sick every year because their job doesn’t provide sick days.

Other precautions include washing one’s hands for at least 20 seconds, because sanitizers are only second-best.

U.S. workplace law may be exactly the reason why illnesses such as the flu and coronavirus spread so quickly.

Many countries around the world offer sick leave because it’s the law, but the U.S. doesn’t. Many top companies only extend this courtesy to workers that are well-educated and paid highly. Low-wage workers typically don’t have this benefit.

Restaurant servers, customer service representatives, even people who work at warehouses that ensure your items are shipped after you order them online—all of these occupations tend to be low-wage. They typically don’t offer paid sick leave that allows workers to stay home and prevent infecting others.

Considering the high cost of living, low-wage workers usually can’t afford to stay home even if their job allowed them unpaid days.

Even if you work at a high-paying job that offers you this necessary perk, you likely eat out, get gas, or buy coffee from places that employ people without sick leave.

For everyone’s safety, it’s important to make sure people can stay home without worrying about their finances.

How would you make sure people can prevent infections of airborne diseases?

Your ideas and suggestions are welcome in the comments section!

Why Not Make Oatmeal With Coffee Instead of Water?

Oatmeal fans, Twitter is about to change your life.

If you’ve been living under the impression water is the only liquid you can use for making your daily oatmeal, you could not be more wrong.

What else do you usually have for breakfast? Why, coffee, of course. So, is there any reason you couldn’t combine your oatmeal with your coffee for one turbo-charged morning entree?

The answer is nope.

Of course, there were some skeptics.

But, it seemed as if the rebellion had already started.

People were riffing. It got a little crazy.

The combos were flying.

I mean, how far can we go with this?

Maybe a little too far.

A serving of this would certainly get you going in the morning.

But while a few people weren’t on board…

…others were all about it.

And, that’s what Twitter does. It brings people together to brainstorm brilliant breakfast ideas for the betterment of society.

Can you even imagine the technological advancements we would have by now if people were powered in the morning using coffee to make oatmeal?

We’d be on Mars today, people. All use of fossil fuels would be eliminated. No more wars. Food and medicine a human right.

Imagine!!!

Mall Madness Is Coming Back!

This is gonna be fun! Oh yeah!

Remember Mall Madness, the totally awesome board game that allowed all of us go on shopping sprees with our friends?

Yeah you do…

It's official, Hasbro is bringing back the electronic shopping board game, "Mall Madness" after being off the shelves for 15 years. It comes out October 1st!

Posted by Morgan Ryan on Windsor’s Country Mornings on Friday, February 21, 2020

Well, it’s coming back in October 2020!

That’s right, Hasbro announced that the nostalgic board game that was originally released in 1988 as a tribute to the mall and consumer culture is coming back later this year.

The game will be very similar to the old versions of the game. The game will have 22 stores, fake ATM cards, and an electronic guide that tells players where they can catch all the hot sales.

OMG! I can’t wait!!!!

Posted by Laura Ver Straate on Tuesday, February 18, 2020

Players will get to choose from the characters Gwen, Sage, Avery, or Dax as they make their way through the mall bonanza.

The new version of the game launched at the International Toy Fair last month.

Hasbro’s VP of Global Brand Strategy & Marketing, Julien McCluney, said,

“The fact that so many adults reminisce about the original [game] more than 30 years after its initial release speaks volumes to its place in pop culture!”

What do you think? Are you excited about getting your hands on one of these, or what?

And, more importantly, are you ready for a nostalgic trip down memory lane?

A Mom Uncovered a Drug Smuggling Operation After Ordering a Creepy Doll on Etsy

You never know what you’re gonna get when you order something off of Etsy or similar websites, right?

A mom named Elizabeth Faidley got the surprise of a lifetime when she ordered a “Merbaby” doll from Etsy and, lo and behold, the unique doll’s head was stuffed with two ounces of COCAINE.

Posted by Elizabeth Faidley on Monday, December 23, 2019

Check out this wild story:

“It’s FINALLY HERE: The 2019 Pearl the Mermaid Saga Re-Telling! I was going to wait until 12/24 to post this, but I know some of you need to prepare for your Christmas Eve dinner readings. The more I think about the Pearl Saga, the more I think about how it really symbolizes my motherhood journey.

If you are new to the Tale of Pearl, welcome. If it is your 4th re-read, hopefully you will find magic and new secrets along the way. Let’s journey back….to December of 2015…..when all Ellie wanted for Christmas was a real merbaby…..

Posted by Elizabeth Faidley on Monday, December 23, 2019

Many of you have been thinking and asking about Pearl and her strange skin, “creepy eyes”, and flowing green hair, and I feel like enough time has passed that I can now reveal to you the entire Pearl Saga. For those of you who might have lost track of the Pearl story or might have forgotten an essential plot point, I’m going to sketch it out for you.

Part I (December, 2015)- Ellie dreams of having a mermaid baby. Not just a mermaid, and not just a baby. A mermaid baby. Being the adventurous gift buyer that I am, I searched and searched and finally found a hand-made mermaid baby doll on ETSY. In the pictures online, it appeared that Pearl was wearing a veil of some sort. But no, that was her creepy and weird skin. When Pearl arrives, I am thrilled! I show her to several teenaged students who react to her face in sheer horror. I ignore this reaction, knowing that Ellie will love Pearl.

There’s even video!

Posted by Elizabeth Faidley on Monday, December 23, 2019

And here’s part II of this wild story…

Part II (Christmas Morning)- Ellie wakes up and excitedly runs to the tree to find Pearl. The video is attached so you can see the real-time reaction. Basically, she was like, “OMG, this doll is hideous. What is wrong with you, Santa??”

(Ellie later notes that Pearl was her first indication that Santa was not real.)…”

If you want to read the rest of Faidley’s story, check out her complete Facebook post.

Attention Facebook Land! It's FINALLY HERE: The 2019 Pearl the Mermaid Saga Re-Telling! I was going to wait until 12/24…

Posted by Elizabeth Faidley on Monday, December 23, 2019

Now, that is truly bizarre.

Have you ever gotten a “surprise” package in the mail like this before?

If so, recount all the sordid details in the comments, please!
