A Woman Canceled Her Baby Shower After Friends and Family Mocked Baby’s Name

Ahhhhhh, the joys of parenting. The feeling of holding your baby for the first time, or celebrating their first birthday. And of course the unconditional love you will always have for that child.

But let’s not get ahead of ourselves. First comes the name. Sooooooo important. Get the name wrong and your child could be facing a lifetime of bullying. For example, Waldo. I mean, kids will be pointing at him screaming, “I Found You” and every birthday they’ll receive a box of white and red striped shirts with matching hats. Ugh.

But get the name right and the stars will align for the little one into adulthood in which they will change mankind for the better….Okay, you get my drift.

That question: “Did you choose the right name?” is on the top of this woman’s mind. She chose the FIRST name of her unborn child to be Squire Sebastian Senator. That’s right. This is the FIRST name only. And her family and friends did not take the news well. So much so, she took to Facebook and canceled the baby shower.

Let’s run down the highlights, shall we?

“His name is Squire Sebastian Senator. That is that. You cannot force me to change his name. This is that name I was meant to give him. No, that is not his full name.”

This is true. It’s her kid. Her business.

“‘Squire Sebastian Senator’ is only his first name. This is how it will be. He will not be allowed to have a nickname, he is to be called by his full and complete first name.”

Sorry to his future friends, but there will be no Squi.

“We come from a long lasting family of both squires and senators. If you look back in our family tree, the survival of this clan is literally rooted in squiredom. We are all related to senators too. This name conveys power. It conveys wealth. It conveys success.”

Ok, lady. I feel ya now. There are history and meaning to the name.

“My baby’s name WILL be a revolution. It will push people to question everything. Why name your baby boring and over-used names like Joshua, Brian, Sam, Nick, Mark, Bella, Marina, etc… when you can name it something special.”

Pump the brakes, Bella is pretty damn special. Just ask Edward.

In the end, it’s none of my business what she names her child. I wish her the best and hope he is loved, cared for, and completely prepared to fill out lengthy bubble exams in school.

This Invention Makes Going to the Bathroom with a Baby SO Much Easier

File this one under “Stuff You Never Knew You Needed.” Going to the bathroom with a baby in tow is a PITA, but this invention allows you to do so in peace. Lifehacker writer Michelle Woo discovered this contraption during a trip to Tokyo, Japan.

Right next to the toilet, there is a seat for a baby. It’s like a shopping cart seat, but for the bathroom!!! GENIUS.

These contraptions have been around in Japan for years, per this Reddit post. While a lot of moms are probably over here wondering when on Earth we’ll get these in the U.S., several Redditors assert that these are actually… a Thing? In certain U.S. cities?

“Saw one last week in a Wal-Mart in Ohio,” one Reddit user wrote.

“See them all of the time in PA,” another said. “Just have to go into the handicap stall.”

Okay, so why are they not in EVERY bathroom? This reminds me of the Great Changing Table Debate. Going out would be a lot easier for families if these simple contraptions were commonplace everywhere.

Apparently, Japan is parent-friendly in many other ways. They have rentable strollers at shopping centers, and feeding rooms at airports (with hot water dispensers for making formula)!

We all know that becoming a parent is a hugely significant milestone. Creating and then raising your own little human can be intensely rewarding. It’s important to recognize, however, that there’s no such thing as a universal life choice. What might be great for me may be a living hell for someone else, and there’s nothing wrong with either of our choices.

Society likes to put a lot of pressure on people – women, specifically – to have children once they hit a certain age. That’s something that illustrator Kate McDonough has had a lot of experience with, and she decided to outline her feelings in a comic strip for her comic, “Pretty, Pretty, Ugly.”

Being a parent is a massive responsibility, and not everyone is cut out for it. Isn’t it actually more unselfish and responsible to recognize that about yourself and simply opt out of having kids, as opposed to being a terrible parent?

At the end of the day, it all boils down to this: if you want to have kids – great! If you don’t want to have kids – great! There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all lifestyle for ANYONE. Make your life choices based on what’s best for you, as opposed to what anyone else might want you to do.

Science Agrees – Husbands Are Just Big Babies Who Actually Make Life Harder for Their Wives’

Fellas: Listen up and get your s***t together.

Married women have undoubtedly known this forever, but science has finally confirmed it – having a husband can sometimes feel like having another kid, rather than an equal partner who will help shoulder the load of managing the home and raising the kids.

A recent survey of 7,000 moms across the U.S. asked them to share the reasons behind their daily stress, and guess what? Moms are stressed. Shocker!

The majority of mothers rate their stress at an 8.5 out of 10, and a whopping 46% of them feel that their husbands cause them more stress than their kids.

“A 7-year-old is going to be a 7-year-old. But a 35-year-old acting like a 7-year-old is more stressful because they should know better,” says mom Deno Fleno.

The reason? 75% of moms say they feel the need to do all of the household and parenting chores because otherwise, they won’t get done at all.

1 in 5 mothers claim to be stressed all the time because their husbands refuse to help out at all. With anything. 

Yikes.

“I am exhausted emotionally and physically when my husband comes home. He feels like another job,” a mom who wished to remain anonymous added.

Sure, not everyone’s husband fits this mold, and more of them fit it sometimes but not always. That said, guys, you need to pull your weight more with the kids and the house, and without being asked (aka nagged) to get off your butts and pitch in.

Ask yourself this: if you’re making your wife’s life harder and not easier, why would she keep you around?

A Survey Claims Half of American Women Are More Stressed by Their Husbands Than Their Children

I can hear most of my married friends out there responding to this headline with some version of “duh,” but look – now there’s proof that we’re not just impatient aholes!

The survey, done by Today, surveyed 7,000 American women and found that the majority of us are stressed due to not feeling as if there are enough hours in the day to complete all expected tasks, and that 75% of us feel as if we’re shouldering the majority of both parenting and household duties.

1 in 5 mothers said that one of their major stresses was a lack of help from their significant other.

Also interestingly, the stress levels play a role later in life, too. When a wife passes first, the husband’s health tends to deteriorate, but when the husband passes first, the wife tends to become healthier and deals better with stress and depression.

It shouldn’t be a surprise, but this is likely because the husband leans more on the wife than vice versa.

If you identify a trend like this in your relationship, you can try writing down all of the daily/weekly duties and splitting them evenly.

Might as well give it a shot!
