A Bunch of Men on Twitter Came Unglued at the Mere Mention of a Female Playing ‘The Joker’

Male comic book nerds continue to flip out about gender-flipped heroes (and villains), even though Dr. Who, the Ocean’s cast, and Ghostbusters have all been rebooted with women at the center (and Wonder Woman was, arguably, one of the best superhero movies to come out in recent memory).

Case in point: writer Geraldine DeRuite jokingly suggested reasons why the Joker should be re-cast in the new Batman to be a woman.

Her reasons were pretty hilariously on point, too…unless you’re a man with fragile feelings and stuff.

Because guys. They cannot handle it.

At some point @everywhereist started playing misogynist Twitter Bingo and became the hero we all deserve.

Moral? Be careful what funny and insightful thoughts you decide to put out there on Twitter.

The misogynists are waiting….

A Survey Shows That 60% of Male Managers Are “Uncomfortable” Working with Women

Many men have stepped up to the plate in the era of #metoo and #timesup, amplifying the voices of women and believing them.

Men are also re-evaluating how they interact with women, and in many ways, that’s a good thing. But it seems some men are confused about how to interact with women in a way that’s appropriate.

Leanin.org released a survey that said 60% of managers who identify as men are uncomfortable participating in a common work activity with a woman, such as mentoring, working alone, or socializing together – a 32% jump from the previous year.

60%. More than half!

This “discomfort” hurts women in the workplace. Studies show that people who are mentored receive higher compensation and have more job satisfaction. So when bosses withdraw from women and work activities involving women, it hurts hurts women and sets them back in the workplace.

And we’re already at a disadvantage when it comes to compensation.

Is it that difficult to act appropriately toward women?  Just treat them with the same respect you would show a male colleague.

Withdrawing from women instead of evaluating your actions and committing to do better is just a sad way to approach things. If you aren’t sure how to act toward your female colleagues, you could do something really wild and ask them how they would like to be treated.

My guess is that they might want something crazy like respect and inclusion. To be trusted with important projects. To have their voices heard at meetings, and, when they are ignored, to have someone amplify their voice and credit their ideas.

Seriously. It’s not that hard to be a decent human.

Woman Offers Lesson on How Ladies Should Behave When Their Man Is Watching the Game. It’s as Bad as It Sounds.

Conservative commentator Denise McAllister is no stranger to controversy, as evidenced by her recent feud with Meghan McCain. That’s a story for another day, though. Today, we’re here to examine something else she said recently that ended up giving her the wrong kind of viral fame.

McAllister took to Twitter to remind her fellow women how they should behave while their man is watching a big sporting event on TV. Prepare to roll your eyes in a MAJOR way.

Patience and timing, ladies…

Wow. Even as a man I think this is totally ridiculous, and I’m not alone.

Check out some of the reactions the tweet managed to get.

Apparently, McAllister later got into some hot water and was fired from her writing job at The Federalist for making homophobic comments as a result of the Twitter exchange above.

Man Asks for Advice About His Wife “Doing Nothing” Around the House – Gets Roasted

This is one time when reading the comments on the internet is not only okay, but will make you feel as if everything is right with the world instead of the other way around.

It all started when a man posted this question on a Facebook page called Man Who Has It All.

His wife doesn’t clean the house or take responsibility for the kids, and he wants to know what he should do about it?

As you probably can guess, the women of the internet had a good belly laugh about how the men in their lives don’t do much to clean the house and also, even if they play with the kids, don’t take much responsibility when it comes to the heavy lifting of parenting.

Imagine a world where gender roles were reversed.

Where it was acceptable for women to behave as men do when it comes to cohabiting or parenting.

That’s all we’re saying, Ben.

Just stop and think about your question and why it seems acceptable to you to ask it and what that says about the world we live in.

For his part, Ben did have regrets about posting his question…

Which honestly just delighted everyone more.

I know it did me.

This Explanation of Men’s Emotional Needs Will Encourage You to Compliment the Men in Your Life More Often

Over the past several decades, society has seen a pretty massive an wonderful movement to be more encouraging to girls and women. Women today are far more aware and confident in their ability to do anything than their great-grandmothers likely did, and it’s been a beautiful and necessary shift in society.

But while boys and men may not need as much reminding that they can do anything or be anything (they’re given that privilege by society, after all), boys and men do need to be reminded that their emotional needs are valid and matter and do not make them less of a “man.”

That’s the crux of the issue of “toxic masculinity,” a concept many are starting to believe is behind many of the emotional issues rampant in male culture – basically, the belief that boys and men need to be tough and stoic and stay guarded in order to be a “real man.”

It’s damaging, and one Tumblr user’s post about how she takes care of her boyfriend’s emotional needs is really putting things into perspective.

And others are responding with their own stories about how they remember to take care of the men in their lives, not just physically, but emotionally, and how much they like it.

And more than that, how much they need it.

The fact that women can feel unsure or uncomfortable when handing out compliments, sympathy, or encouragement to men is only proof that toxic masculinity affects everyone in our culture, not just men.

Take care of your boys, yes.

Or, you know…take care of each other. It’s the only way we’re all going to make it.

Here’s What Women Would Do If Men Had a 9:00 P.M Curfew, and it Will Break Your Heart

Being a woman is amazing (or at least, so I’m told), but it comes with a pretty serious risk – men. Knowing that a man’s worst fear on a first date is rejection while a woman’s is possible rape/death is absolutely heartbreaking. Women have learned to live their lives defensively, always trying to be prepared for the worst.

As a man, talking to the women in my life revealed some pretty startling truths about how different life is for them. One of the major differences? Enjoying nighttime. As a guy, I don’t ever really think twice about going anywhere after dark, but for a woman, that becomes a series of risk-assessment calculations.

When Danielle Muscato went on Twitter and asked women what they would do if men lived under a 9:00 p.m. curfew, as is enforced against women in a few regressive nations, the answers where wholly depressing, and sadly unsurprising.

It’s not that women want to go out and do all kinds of crazy things at night, but if they do, that’s okay. Women want to do the simple things that we should be able to take part in that are missed. Going for a nighttime jog, maybe even with headphones on, would be great. Catching a bus without fear. Going to the grocery store alone at night. They are the kinds of things women immediately relate to, and miss themselves.

What we learn by reading what thousands of women answered is that the world feels, and too often is, dangerous for women.

Without fear of men, women might open doors at night. We might stop off at someplace new for a coffee. Maybe we would even smile more – because isn’t that what so many men keep telling women we need to do anyway.
