This Mom Refuses to Throw Her Daughter’s Ex Out. Is She a Jerk?

Family relationships sure are complicated

And we’re about to hear a story that has an unusual twist when it comes to parent-child relationships.

A mother shared a story about a sticky situation she’s now in with her daughter and her ex-boyfriend.

Read on to see what happened.

AITA for refusing to throw my daughter’s ex out?

“My husband (48M), “Tom” and I (42F) have 3 kids. About 3 1/2 years ago our oldest “Taylor” (17F) started dating Rob (19M). I know they were young but Rob is a really nice kid and treated my daughter well.

right after they met Rob’s parents got divorced. As a result of this, his dad moved to the other side of the country and his mother began to struggle with mental health. his 2 younger siblings went to live with grandparents but they did not have room for Rob so he was going to go to live with his dad. He was devastated to leave his hometown, Taylor, and his friends.

Taylor and Rob asked us if Rob could move into our in-law apartment. We spoke with Taylor privately and asked if Rob was pressuring her into allowing him to move in and she said no it was her idea.

We also told her to think really hard about it because once we agreed to take him in, we would be responsible for him and that would mean he would be staying as long as he needed. She thought about it for a few days and then said it would be okay no matter what.

She is usually a level-headed kid so we thought we had made the consequences of this decision clear. We thought it over for a bit and after setting some ground rules agreed to allow him to live in the apartment.

The apartment is a fully separate unit with its own utilities and kitchen, bathroom. The unit is separate but does have hotel-style adjoining rooms set of doors. We decided not to charge Rob any rent or utilities in exchange for following a certain set of rules.

In the beginning, Rob was not allowed to have guests to the apartment, including Taylor. We did not let him set up the living space and instead they would have to use the main part of the house to hang out together. Rob was always welcome to have meals with us and we treated him like another member of our family.

Rob is now finishing up his first year of a local college and Taylor is a senior in high school. 5 months ago Taylor and Rob broke up and she starting dating “Joe” (18M) almost immediately. Since the breakup, Rob usually stays in his place and only occasionally comes over to help my husband with various household chores.

A week ago Taylor came to us and told us that Rob’s presence is making Joe uncomfortable and that we need to ask him to leave. We said no to kicking him out but we said we would set up some new rules that would make everyone more comfortable.

We said that from now on Rob would use the living space in the apartment and would have to call before coming over. Taylor said Joe is still unhappy about this and the only thing that will make him happy is for Rob to be gone.

I might be TA because I told Taylor that this was obviously between her and her boyfriend and the solution is not tossing someone out on the street.

She got even more upset with me and said I was ruining her senior year and she might end up dateless for prom if Joe breaks up with her.”

Now this sounds like a sticky situation to me…let’s see how people responded.

This reader doesn’t think the woman has done anything wrong, but they opined that maybe the kid should have more access to the common spaces in the home.

This reader said that the daughter is worked up because of her new boyfriend, not because of the living situation.

And they added that the daughter just isn’t acting rationally.

Another individual said that the family is helping this poor kid out and agreements so made. So it looks like Rob isn’t going anywhere.

Finally, this reader could relate to Rob’s situation because she went through some similar things when she was a teenager.

She has a lot of good advice for this family regarding their situation.

Do you think this woman is acting unreasonably?

A Person Wants to Know if They’re a Jerk for Messing With Their Ex and His Assistant

It kind of blows my mind sometimes when people talk about how much time they have to mess with people…

Why aren’t you people working?!?!

But that’s another story…

This story comes to us from Reddit’s “Am I the *sshole?” page and is pretty interesting…

Let’s take a look at what happened and how people on Reddit responded to this situation.

AITA for screwing with my ex and his assistant?

“My ex’s assistant has disliked me since she started working for him. I have to stay in touch with my ex because we have a 9-month-old together.

His schedule changes a lot so his assistant is supposed to let me know if there’s a change which will mean he can’t use his visitations and if he wants to reschedule the time.

She’s started “accidentally” sending me his personal things. If he’s making dinner arrangements with his current flavour of the week, she “accidentally” sends it to me asking to confirm when it’s meant for someone else. She “accidentally” got two gifts mixed up, so she ended up sending me/our baby lingerie. There have been other things, but you get the idea.

Last Tuesday, she “accidentally” called me whilst my ex was having a pretty sexual conversation with his best friend in which I came up an uncomfortable number of times. It was muffled but I heard way more than I wanted to.

In the past, I would complain to my ex, but he always laughs her mistakes off and promises he’ll have a word with her, but she keeps doing it.

I was supposed to see my ex last Friday, but I was kind of annoyed with him, so I decided to screw with his assistant and him. I called her and told her he couldn’t come on Friday because I had a date. On Friday, I called him when he didn’t show and asked him why he didn’t come.

He ended up coming over later than he was supposed to, and he was sulking the whole time and kept complaining that he thought I was going on a date and he’d need to have a word with his assistant about making mistakes because he had to cancel “important” plans to come over last minute.

I did end up telling him the truth after our son went to sleep and I confronted him about what he said. He denied it but then got angry at me for wasting his time and making him miss time with his son. He said I was being petty over small mistakes.

I told my best friend what I did, and she said I was an AH because his assistant could get fired over this and I shouldn’t have told him about hearing the call.

I do feel kind of bad now but I’m really sick of her making mistakes when it comes to me and getting away with it.

So, [am I the a-hole]?”

Here’s how people responded.

This person said that she is not in the wrong in this situation.

This person thought the whole thing stunk of immaturity and pettiness.

Another person also argued that she was not the *sshole in this situation and that she needs to be very deliberate with keeping records about this whole situation.

Finally, this person said (and I agree) that everyone involved in this situation kind of sucks and they’re all playing immature games.

Do you think this person is a jerk?

Or is this whole thing really no big deal?

Share your thoughts with us in the comments. Thanks!

Woman Edits People’s Toxic Exes out of Photos for a Cheap Price

Now this is a brilliant business idea!

A Twitter user who goes by the handle @hexappeal has become quite popular lately because she will perform a very important service for you for an incredibly reasonable price.

She’ll use her impressive photo editing skills to remove your terrible ex from old photos. For only $15 a pop, you never have to look at awful person ever again! She originally started out with a $10 fee, but as demand grows, you gotta do what you gotta do.

Here’s a little message about the price increase.

Here’s another great example of her work.

Boyfriend? What boyfriend? I don’t remember that guy. It’s like in Back to the Future when Marty McFly’s family is slowly disappearing from that snapshot. Except this time it can be permanent!

I’m sure a lot of us could do a halfway-decent Photoshop edit to try to remove those toxic folks from our memories forever, but this woman has some serious skills, so why not throw a little cash her way and she’ll do a bang-up job? Don’t be a cheapskate, okay? You’ll thank me later.

Sometimes, social media can really be used for good.

Is this a million-dollar idea, or what? Heck, it might even be a billion-dollar idea…

A Man Live-Tweeted the Awful Way He Found out His Summer Fling Was Married With Kids

This guy found out his ex-fling was married with children in the most “yikes” way possible — by running into him at church on Christmas Eve.

Dan, or @dxnielandrew_ on Twitter, reported the entire story live on Twitter, and it went viral for obvious reasons.

It all started when Dan went to midnight mass with his mom for Christmas Eve.

“Next to me was a man I hooked up with last summer….and next to him was his wife and children that I had no knowledge of,” he wrote alongside the perfect reaction GIF.

“Can I add we went on 7 dates before he told me he couldn’t be with me because his job was too hectic,” Dan added. “Never realised his job was stay at home dad xxx.”

If that weren’t bad enough, though, the ex then slid into Dan’s DMs because he apparently has zero shame.

Dan posted a screenshot of the DM, leaving the man’s identity anonymous.

Dan denied the man’s advances (good job Dan), replying: “No I’m not going to do that, have a nice Christmas.”

But the man simply doubled down.

“Let’s talk, I can give you Christmas miracle lol xx,” he wrote.

He didn’t stop there either. He wrote a follow-up message, “Dan please hear me out, when are you back in work? Let’s talk please I hav so much I want to say to you. I can’t stop thinking about you xx. Santa said you’re on the naughty list hehe.”

Dan wrote on Twitter to “please come to my funeral” because “I don’t think I’m going to survive Christmas.” Honestly, we can’t blame him.

Cause it KEEPS GOING:

Poor Dan.

But it’s ok.

Seems like Dan’s right because…

Words may fail, but Dan’s clearly winning.

People Talk About Getting Texts from Their Exes During the Holidays

For some reason, scores of people decide to send their exes text messages during the holidays. Even when the breakup was awful and one side (or both) have made it clear that they want nothing to do with the other person.
